Hypnosis For an appointment, or for enquiries, please click here or contact Kathleen on Tel: 0419 524 962 or Email: kathleen@coachingpsychologymelbourne.com.au Some people get a bit scared about being hypnotised. It seems that they have seen people hypnotised on stage, and running around behaving like a chicken! You'd be surprised how many people have said this to me, and they are naturally apprehensive about hypnosis. You will be relieved to learn that none of my clients have ever behaved like a chicken. Clinical Hypnosis (as opposed to stage or entertainment hypnosis) is a cooperative effort between the therapist and the client for a therapeutic purpose. The client would like to feel better and lets the therapist know what he/she wants, they discuss this, and the therapist then relaxes the client more and more until they enter what is known as an "altered state of consciousness" or trance. Many people naturally go into a trance when they daydream; children do it very well. Hypnotherapists use the power and positive imagery of the client's mind by means of hypnotic language. There is nothing magical or spooky about clinical hypnosis which can help people overcome addictions, anxiety or depression, phobias, nail biting, or teeth grinding. It can be used to help with chronic pain, lowered confidence, performance anxiety, e.g., public speaking phobia, and for healing. You can also learn to hypnotise yourself. I have had hypnosis and found it a very helpful and pleasant experience.
