Emotional Freedom For an appointment, or for enquiries, please click here Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is one of the Energy Therapies. Gary Craig developed EFT after studying Thought Field Therapy, (TFT) an original energy therapy by Dr. Roger Callahan in America. Both EFT and TFT are relatively rapid, do not require much talking, and consist of tapping on the Meridian (Acupuncture) points of the body while thinking of the problem. Thus they got the name of “Psychological Acupressure”. EFT is used for a great range of problems, including anxiety, trauma, moderate depression, self-esteem/self-acceptance issues, phobias, pain, grief and emotional upsets. EFT can be used also with Cognitive Behavior Therapy to challenge dysfunctional beliefs, and to install new helpful beliefs and attitude. Other uses for EFT are phobias, including fear of flying or public speaking, procrastination or for peak performance at work or with sports. Clients are taught in one or two sessions how to use the techniques, and can then use them at home. More difficult issues can be handled within a therapy session. Energy Therapies are now being researched, and they can hold their own against other methods. Positive changes have been demonstrated in the frontal cortex of the brain, bringing about significant positive changes in brain waves after twelve sessions over four weeks. (See www.emofree.com research, David Feinstein) Other research has shown that EFT is effective in treating phobias (S. Wells, research at Curtin University, www.eftdownunder.com). When used correctly and persistently, they have long lasting effects including relaxation and positive thinking. They are a safe and gentle technique for young and old. Kathleen and colleague Physiotherapist Judy Minshull run EFT workshops periodically in Sandringham.
